Bowmans ranked favourably in Chambers’ FinTech research report

The FinTech expertise of leading African law firm, Bowmans, has been recognised by Chambers, in both Kenya and South Africa.

In addition, partners Craig Kennedy, John Syekei and Kirsten Kern have all been identified as notable practitioners.

FinTech is a relatively new area researched by Chambers but a rigorous research methodology is followed. It includes ‘thousands of in-depth inter­views with clients’ in order to assess ‘the reputations and expertise of business lawyers worldwide’.

According to the publication, the rankings are based on ‘perceived technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/ astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most val­ued by the client’.

In Kenya, Bowmans ‘is held in high regard by clients for its ability to provide legal support on cross-border transactions and intel­lectual property matters in the FinTech sector’. Clients are quoted as saying, ‘They have a good grasp of the law and they understand the client’s needs. They have an excellent team that is well trained, equipped and easy to work with’.

In South Africa, Bowmans is seen as, ‘especially adept in handling issues in the areas of blockchain, regulatory compliance and payments’. Clients commend the team for being practical and understanding startups. They are quoted as saying, ‘They excel in providing advice on the most com­plex transactions and we are certainly happy with them. They are top notch.’
